"Every year, on Halloween, people find candy in here. Some say it's the groundskeeper, leaving treats for rowdy kids. Others think it's the cemetery itself, luring people in."

Welcome to Spin Crypt! This is a short proof-of-concept for a project I've been working on for a while now, and while I haven't made it very far in the actual project I wanted to make use of the "engine" I finally got set up (and also actually have a game to release for once)!

Explore three colorful locations within a graveyard filled with pitfalls, ghosts, unusually large lightbulbs, and pumpkins on Halloween night, all while searching for as much candy as you can! It's based heavily on classic handheld Zeldas, but less focus on action-RPG aspects, and more on platforming. (It gets kinda difficult by the end)

Warning:

(Seriously though it gets really difficult)

Controls are escape for pause, arrow keys + Z & X, you can change Z -> C in the 'controls' section of the game's menus if you like. The project also has gamepad support, but there isn't binding customization, so hope you get lucky with your button mapping.

Really cute style and fun, challenging gameplay! Would love to see more!

This game is really nicely put together. All the art and effects and atmosphere is really cute and the lighting and ghost effects were smooth and fun just to watch. The mechanics are creative and fun and introduced well.
It is very challenging but it is possible stick with it!

Spin Crypt was an absolute delight from start to finish! The pixel art and general style are a very nice love letter to Link's Awakening, which is one of my favorite games. The soundtrack was absolutely boppin'! I found the difficulty to be just right, though the end stretch may be a tad challenging for a general audience. Absolutely can't wait for the full game!

Super fun and feels really good to play. Your characters and pixel art are just incredible and really tie it together! I personally think it's a good amount of challenging too. The only issue I encountered was a very minor bug with one of the platforms disappearing on me. ^^; it wasn't too serious though, and after a quick reboot it went back to working perfectly! Lovin it a lot!

Ohh my gosh I must've overlooked it then!! Was it one of the ones that triggers when you land on it?

I think(?!?) Honestly, I think it was just a unique issue with what I did personally. I got to that veryyy last jump after it bottlenecks and missed, so the platform somehow got stuck at the end. I think it wouldn't respawn for me bc the game thought I had made it. Again, it's nothing too serious!! But I just wanted to let you know in case you use this platform layout for future projects! ^_^ <3!!

YEAHH okay I definitely missed that! Thank you so much for pointing it out, I thought I fixed all the issues with these but I was focusing on the later scenarios with them

Yo!

Lol, I usually don't comment, but after seeing that kinda mean comment I decided to give a more earnest review of the game! First of all, I really like the art style and how it plays. I can see the Link's Awakening roots and it feels like you added a little bit of Mario with the dives. I was able to get all the Candy in about 43 minutes. I played with a USB Super Nintendo Controller so maybe that helped?

Anyway, here's a detailed list of what I liked and disliked...

Liked:

* The writing, very funny and had a lot of character. Reminded me of Undertale a bit!

* The platforming, though challenging, gameplay was fair so each mistake was your own fault (A golden game design element)

* THE CHECKPOINTS, each checkpoint was strategically placed to keep things fair and doable. I probably would have quit near the end if not for that. (I NEVER want to see a haunted pumpkin AGAIN!!!)

Disliked:

*Nothing, I would have been a little upset if you didn't put enough checkpoints at the end section. HOWEVER, you did which was really good... my fingers still hurt though cause of the precise landings at the end, very brutal.

All in all, this was a very good game for just a side game for your main project. It showed a lot of character and quality, it felt like a game that Nintendo made. You should be proud of your work. I didn't know what Spin Crypt was when I found this, but I'm definitely not going to be able to forget it now!

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to let you know that someone took your game seriously because it deserves that type of attention. Till next time!

you people sure hate me, don't you? O_o

guess I'll jsut delete my comment since everyone is hitting on me anyways and downvoting it like crazy -.-

(+1)(-1)

Hey, no hate, just think your comments through! Developers put a lot of time into their projects and all of them cherish their work. For the future, just avoid words like "disgusting" or anything with a negative tone. Feedback is vital for a Dev, but it has to be clear feedback on what the game does well and what it struggles with! Cheers!

(-5)

well it is disgustingly hard though! :O

Also fuck you all! -.-
you deserve it.

I had a lot of fun with this. The graphics were great and it was very challenging. It got a little too hard for me but it was a very enjoyable experience. Keep up the good work!

And now avoiding ghost walls on a moving platform?

Nope. nope, absolutely nope! :O

(-6)

well, beat it anyways. missed 5 candies though. these surely were there in the place where you fell down the hole, which I didnt really check first :-/

Nope, that whole room is empty. I wouldn't be terrible enough to do THAT lol.

(-4)

huh, then is there a second secret room somewhere?
Cause I msut have missed that one then.

Also why are people downvoting me? :O

The whole disgusting comment kinda comes off as mean I guess. Definitely did hurt my feelings a bit when you're the only person who showed up to comment hahaha
